Hen
Chalet with Cage and Western Cedar Siding
(The

Have Trailer, Will Deliver ($1.75 per mile
(round trip)) |
The model with the vinyl skirt is provided for
neighborhoods where the sight of chicken dropping may be problematic.
A tarp on the ground can catch the droppings, increasing the ease of
moving them to your garden for fertilizer.
The Hen Chalet with Western Cedar siding is about
150 pounds heavier than the vinyl models and requires 2 able-bodied men to
assemble. The weight makes it a little more expensive to ship too. Both of
these liabilities are more than compensated for by the handsome appearance
of the unit.
The Hen Chalet with Cage offers unique features. The
unit sits on bricks that you purchase locally. We supply a vinyl matt with
holes in it that is laid out on the ground during construction. You lay one or two courses of bricks
around the outside edges of the vinyl. Install mulch on top of the vinyl.
Set the stilt platform on the bricks. It fits perfectly! It is
not necessary to clean the floor of the coop itself as the floor is made
of cage wire that is easy for the hens to walk on. The chicken droppings
fall onto the ground.
If your give your chickens clippings from your lawn
mower, they receive the benefits of the chlorophyll in the grass much as
if they were moved about the yard in one of our models on wheels.
Panels in two ends of the cage are removable to
allow easy cleaning of the mulch bed. The vinyl prevents manure from
sticking to the ground and makes cleaning very easy. The holes in the
vinyl allow moisture to go to and from the ground in a controlled manner.
The vinyl also prevent predators from digging into the cage area.

The chickens easily jump up into the coop through
a hole in the floor. You can still allow them to
free range outside by opening the sliding door.
Special Note: The Hen Chalets are particularly good
for areas with cold weather and snow. The heated bucket solves water
problems and composting mulch in the cage model or under a parked Hen
Chalet on Wheels keeps the ground warm enough to make the chickens' feet
happy.
